We have become increasingly alarmed about a number of serious issues that threaten the life of this precious resource. Weed overgrowth, bank erosion, pollution, run off , fouling, silting , lack of law enforcement and apathy toward protecting this exceptional recreational and natural resource are some of the matters we are concerned about.

The weed growth grows worse each year since the lake is silting in and getting more shallow. . Weeds received more sunlight and thus became even more prolific in 2008. Watch for them in 2009,

$4,300. 00 was raised toward the purchase of an aerator for the lake.
But perhaps more importantly, the Regatta brought people together
from all the municipalities surrounding the lake and sparked awareness of the the lake's issues.

After much public outcy and consideration by the Deal Lake Commission, the weeds in the most overgrown area of the lake
( between Sunset and Wickapecko), were treated and finally harvested in August 2008.
The Light Up the Lake" fund- raising regatta brought hundreds of neighbors and guests together for a great cause and a delightful evening of food, drinks and socializing on the lake.
The Friends of Deal Lake are a collaboration of neighbors whose goals are to rejuvenate and preserve the lake; educate the community about this unique ecosystem; and ensure that measures are taken to restore and maintain Deal Lake for generations to come.
